A made-to-measure book
In French, Spanish and Czech, the family's youngest is simply called 'the benjamin' — your Benjamin gets the word back with a capital B, on the cover of his own book
Benjamin is one of the very few first names that dictionaries also list as a common noun. This page is about giving it back its capital B: a storybook where Benjamin is the hero, drawn from his own photo, with his name set right across the cover.

Here's how a book for Benjamin could look
Pick a theme, upload a photo, and your child becomes the hero of the story — with their name on the cover and inside.

Why Benjamin belongs on a book cover
Benjamin is a name families almost never say in full. By the second week of his life he is Ben — one quick syllable, easy to call across a playground — and the whole name comes out only for birth certificates and grandmothers. A book cover is one of the few places where the full name gets to stand in its Sunday best. Ben-ja-min: three syllables with a rise and fall that reads like the first line of a story all by itself, and at eight letters it fills a title line handsomely without ever getting cramped.
There is also something quietly fitting about a storybook made for a boy with this particular name. Benjamin has meant “the treasured youngest son” for close to three thousand years, and whether your Benjamin is the baby of the family, the eldest or an only child, the name still carries that undertone of “the one who is cherished.” A book in which he is the hero — his face in the illustrations, his name carried through the sentences of the adventure — says exactly the same thing, without a word of explanation.
Read aloud, the name earns its place too. A story is a text one adult ends up performing every evening, and Benjamin gives that performance range: the full name for the solemn moments — “and then Benjamin stepped into the dark” — and Ben for the quick back-and-forth of dialogue. Few names hand a tired parent two registers to work with; this one does.
Where Benjamin comes from — and how it became a word
Benjamin goes back to the Hebrew Binyamin, usually read as “son of the right hand” — the right side being the place of honour at a table, so the sense is closer to “the favoured one.” In the Book of Genesis, Benjamin is the youngest of Jacob's twelve sons, the child of his father's old age and the one guarded most jealously. The name travelled through Greek and Latin into almost every European language, and then it did something almost no other first name has managed: because the original Benjamin was the beloved youngest, the name itself turned into an ordinary word for the youngest of a family. The French say le benjamin, the Spanish el benjamín, the Czechs benjamínek — and in France even the youngest age bracket in children's sport is officially called les benjamins.
In the English-speaking world the name has had a remarkably steady career. It has never been a fashion that dates a boy to one decade; instead it has sat in and around the American top ten for the past decade and among the dependable classics in Britain and Australia, helped along by the most famous bearer of all, Benjamin Franklin. Parents keep choosing it because it does a rare double act: dignified in full, instantly warm when shortened.
And he has picture-book pedigree. Beatrix Potter sent Benjamin Bunny hopping through Mr. McGregor's garden back in 1904, which means a Benjamin has been getting into trouble in children's books for well over a century. Your Benjamin simply joins the tradition — this time as the hero drawn with his own face rather than a rabbit in a tam-o'-shanter.
The many sizes of one name
- Ben — The everyday workhorse — the form teachers, teammates and half the family will actually use, and short enough to shout from a touchline.
- Benny — The toddler-years form, softer and bouncier; it tends to stick within the family long after he has outgrown it everywhere else.
- Benji — The playful in-between — bigger than Benny, smaller than Ben. Often the form a little brother or sister invents first.
- Benno — The continental rarity, common in German-speaking families; a good fit if his roots reach that way.
- Benjamin — The full dress uniform: report cards, wedding invitations — and the title of his own book.

Over 1,200 books starring their very own hero
My daughters love the book! We read it every evening before bedtime. The story is so sweet and lovingly written, and the pictures are beautiful. My girls feel really special because their own name appears in the book. A great keepsake forever! Absolutely recommend. ❤️
We got the book as a birthday present and it turned out perfectly. The print quality pleasantly surprised me – hardcover, nice paper and illustrations printed in fine detail. The characters are drawn so well that my daughter recognized her sister, me, the giraffe and herself :) She really likes the story and now it’s her favourite book, we read it almost every evening. On top of that, it will remain a lovely keepsake that she’ll come back to even in a few years. I definitely recommend it.
The book was a gift… I’ll find out how happy it makes them… but it’s very beautiful
I have the books ready as a gift, so I’m already looking forward to handing them over
An absolutely stunning book made to order. It's not only a beautiful gift, but a keepsake for a lifetime. Our sons are thrilled. Not only did they find “themselves” in the book, but the whole story also takes place in their favourite place, which is the ice rink. The whole book is accompanied by wonderful pictures, and the dedication from us, the parents, is just the cherry on top. I warmly recommend it. Not only will all the “heroes of the book” be thrilled, but so will you, as soon as you see the book with your own eyes :)
Our daughter was absolutely thrilled, she looked through it several times in a row and declared that it's pretty, she hasn't had enough of it yet and we read it every day before bedtime.
The book is very nice. The pictures look very nice, they're not blurry. The book really made us happy.
Very beautiful book, I always have trouble choosing in a bookshop, something bothers me about every one, or I can't find a theme I'd want.. here I can make up anything
A great, sweet and inspiring book that won us over from the very first pages! ❤️ The story of Алекс and Марая inspired us to go to the forest together, to enjoy the autumn beauty, to learn more about the animals and their food, to collect pine cones, hazelnuts, acorns and chestnuts and to create a wonderful autumn decoration at home. 🍂🍁 We love books that we don’t just read, but turn into real family adventures! Thank you for this magical experience! 🥰
The book is just as I imagined it. It's a present for under the Christmas tree, so we'll see how the grandkids like it ♥
The book for my grandson’s christening arrived and I’m thrilled with it. I’m already looking forward to us flipping through it together as soon as he grows up a little. It’s great that you can also add a favourite thing or toy and it gets worked into the story. It’s great!!!
The book is very nice, it was bought as a gift, so Maťko hasn’t seen it yet

Popular questions
Whichever your family actually says. You type the name yourself when you create the hero, and the story and the title suggestion are built from exactly that form. Many parents pick the full Benjamin for the cover because it carries more ceremony, then hear themselves reading “Ben” aloud anyway.
