A made-to-measure book
Four letters, a double L, a vowel at each end — Ella is the rare name that looks like a book title before the book is even written
Some names have to grow into a cover. Ella already fits: her four letters go at the top in full, her face goes into the illustrations, and the story underneath is written around her — nobody else's.
ELLAand the Star on the Red Cape
Here's how a book for Ella could look
Pick a theme, upload a photo, and your child becomes the hero of the story — with their name on the cover and inside.
ELLAand the Map of the Misty Valley
ELLAand the Little Wooden Robot
ELLAand the Long Way Home from the Park
The covers above are samples — the illustrations were created by artificial intelligence and the children in them aren't real. Your book is made from the photo you upload.
Why Ella belongs at the front of a book
Ella is one of the few names that already behaves like a title. Four letters, a matched pair of Ls in the middle, a vowel at either end — set in large type on a hardcover it has a symmetry that picture-book designers usually have to work for. And because every book in this collection is titled "Ella and …", the name doesn't just appear on the cover, it leads it: Ella is announced before the misty valley, the wooden robot or the red cape ever get a mention.
There is a quieter reason the name suits a first book of her own. E-L-L-A is one of the first words many girls learn to write — four letters, two of them the same, all of them met in the first weeks of the alphabet. A girl who has just mastered signing the corner of her drawings gets to find those same four letters printed above a heroine with her face. That moment of recognition — I can read that, and it's me — is hard to manufacture with any other word.
Read aloud, Ella is just as obliging. Two open syllables and not a consonant cluster in sight, so the name lands softly at the end of a goodnight sentence — which matters in a story built around it. Where longer names get clipped by a tired reader at bedtime, Ella arrives whole every single time.
Where Ella comes from — and how it stopped being short for anything
Ella arrived in England with the Normans in the eleventh century, carried over from the Germanic element alia, meaning "other". Its oldest sense is something like "the other one" — an apt patron for a girl who insists on doing things her own way. The name had a first flowering in the Middle Ages, came back with the Victorian taste for old names, and then spent much of the twentieth century in a supporting role: girls christened Eleanor or Gabriella were Ella at home, while the short form itself rarely stood on a birth certificate.
Around the turn of the millennium that reversed for good. Parents began choosing Ella in full — not as an abbreviation of anything — and it climbed into the top twenty girls' names in the United States, England, Australia and New Zealand, where it has stayed for the best part of two decades. Today's Ella is likely to share her name with a classmate's baby sister, but almost never with a grandmother: the name manages to feel storybook-old and completely current at once.
Storybooks got there before the statistics did. Gail Carson Levine's Ella Enchanted put an Ella at the center of a modern fairy tale a generation ago, and when Disney retold Cinderella in 2015, the heroine's given name was — of course — Ella. The name has been quietly auditioning for book covers for years.
And no telling of it gets far without Ella Fitzgerald. The First Lady of Song made those four letters a byword for warmth and effortless swing, and to this day Ella is one of the few first names a jazz fan recognizes with no surname attached. That is a fine inheritance for a book heroine: a name people instinctively say with a smile.
What Ella turns into at home
- Ella — Short enough already that many families never shorten it — the rare name that goes on a birth certificate, a book cover and a nursery peg in exactly the same form.
- Ellie — The softest everyday version, most common in the nursery years; plenty of Ellas answer to Ellie right up until school insists on the full name.
- El — The one-syllable call from the bottom of the stairs — brisk, practical and, later on, teenage-proof.
- Elle — The sleek version she may claim for herself one day, when the picture books have moved to the bottom shelf.
- Ella-Bella — The rhyme every family discovers within the first week. Strictly for home use — but on the dedication page of her book, it fits perfectly.

Over 1,200 books starring their very own hero
My daughters love the book! We read it every evening before bedtime. The story is so sweet and lovingly written, and the pictures are beautiful. My girls feel really special because their own name appears in the book. A great keepsake forever! Absolutely recommend. ❤️
We got the book as a birthday present and it turned out perfectly. The print quality pleasantly surprised me – hardcover, nice paper and illustrations printed in fine detail. The characters are drawn so well that my daughter recognized her sister, me, the giraffe and herself :) She really likes the story and now it’s her favourite book, we read it almost every evening. On top of that, it will remain a lovely keepsake that she’ll come back to even in a few years. I definitely recommend it.
The book was a gift… I’ll find out how happy it makes them… but it’s very beautiful
I have the books ready as a gift, so I’m already looking forward to handing them over
An absolutely stunning book made to order. It's not only a beautiful gift, but a keepsake for a lifetime. Our sons are thrilled. Not only did they find “themselves” in the book, but the whole story also takes place in their favourite place, which is the ice rink. The whole book is accompanied by wonderful pictures, and the dedication from us, the parents, is just the cherry on top. I warmly recommend it. Not only will all the “heroes of the book” be thrilled, but so will you, as soon as you see the book with your own eyes :)
Our daughter was absolutely thrilled, she looked through it several times in a row and declared that it's pretty, she hasn't had enough of it yet and we read it every day before bedtime.
The book is very nice. The pictures look very nice, they're not blurry. The book really made us happy.
Very beautiful book, I always have trouble choosing in a bookshop, something bothers me about every one, or I can't find a theme I'd want.. here I can make up anything
A great, sweet and inspiring book that won us over from the very first pages! ❤️ The story of Алекс and Марая inspired us to go to the forest together, to enjoy the autumn beauty, to learn more about the animals and their food, to collect pine cones, hazelnuts, acorns and chestnuts and to create a wonderful autumn decoration at home. 🍂🍁 We love books that we don’t just read, but turn into real family adventures! Thank you for this magical experience! 🥰
The book is just as I imagined it. It's a present for under the Christmas tree, so we'll see how the grandkids like it ♥
The book for my grandson’s christening arrived and I’m thrilled with it. I’m already looking forward to us flipping through it together as soon as he grows up a little. It’s great that you can also add a favourite thing or toy and it gets worked into the story. It’s great!!!
The book is very nice, it was bought as a gift, so Maťko hasn’t seen it yet

Yes. You type the name yourself when you create the hero, so the story and the cover carry whichever form your family actually uses — Ella, Ellie or anything else she answers to.
