A made-to-measure book

The ancient Greeks had a word for loving Sophia — philosophy. This book takes the simpler route and just puts her on the cover.

A storybook made for one particular Sophia: her name in the title, her face in the illustrations, and a plot where the clever idea that saves the day is hers.

Here's how a book for Sophia could look

Pick a theme, upload a photo, and your child becomes the hero of the story — with their name on the cover and inside.

The covers above are samples — the illustrations were created by artificial intelligence and the children in them aren't real. Your book is made from the photo you upload.

A story where Sophia isn't in the audience

Most bedtime books ask Sophia to cheer for somebody else's hero. This one hands her the part. Her name goes on the cover in full — Sophia, exactly as it appears on her birth certificate — and inside, the girl having the adventure is unmistakably her, drawn from the photo you upload. For a girl whose name literally means wisdom, there is something satisfying about a story where the clever solution comes from her, not from a passing wizard.

Sophia also gives you a choice most names don't: the full, slightly ceremonial Sophia for the cover and the dramatic moments, or everyday Sophie for the lines other characters actually say out loud. Many families make exactly that split at home without ever deciding to — the long form for doctor's appointments and first days of school, Sophie for breakfast. The book can mirror whichever side of that split your daughter answers to, or keep both, the way real life does.

Read aloud, the name earns its place too. Sophia lands softly at the end of a sentence — no hard consonant to trip over at lights-out — and it stresses cleanly in the middle, so it carries through dialogue without ever sounding clunky. Some names a narrator has to work around; this one a narrator gets to lean on, page after page.

Wisdom, empresses and a name the whole world agreed on

Sophia is the ancient Greek word for wisdom — not a name that later acquired a meaning, but a meaning that became a name. When the Greeks coined philosophia, "love of wisdom", they built it from the same word. The most famous Sophia in the world isn't a person at all: Hagia Sophia in Istanbul is dedicated to Holy Wisdom itself, and for centuries the name travelled through Byzantine princesses and Russian regents before arriving in western Europe. One of them mattered enormously to Britain: Sophia of Hanover, whose descendants — and only hers — have held the British throne since 1714.

For most of the twentieth century Sophia was a quiet classic in English, the name of grandmothers and of Sophia Loren. Then it rose like almost no other name has: it reached number one for girls in the United States in 2011 and held the top spot for three years running. What makes it genuinely unusual is how far the agreement stretches — in its Sophia and Sofia spellings it has topped or crowded the charts in Italy, Spain, Mexico, Germany and half a dozen other countries at the same time. Very few names are a favorite on several continents at once; this is one of them.

That global reach is a quietly practical gift. A girl named Sophia can travel almost anywhere in the world and find her name pronounced with ease — three open syllables that Italian, Spanish, German and English speakers all say without hesitation, each convinced the name is theirs. Not many children grow up with a name that needs no translation; a Sophia does, and a story written for her gets to use every syllable of it.

What Sophia gets called at home

  • Sophie — The everyday form, and a name with its own long history — in France and Britain, Sophie has stood on its own for centuries. If your Sophia mostly hears this at home, the story can use it in every line of dialogue while the cover keeps the full name.
  • Soph — The clipped form that tends to arrive with the school years, usually from friends first. It sounds casual and grown-up at the same time — the version shouted across a playground, and later the one that survives into text messages.
  • Fia — The rarer pet form that keeps the ending instead of the beginning. Families who use it usually like that it belongs to their Sophia alone — hardly anyone else's — and that it works as a secret family word as much as a nickname.
  • Fifi — The toddler-era nickname, often self-invented when Sophia is still learning to pronounce her own three syllables. It rarely survives to school age, which is exactly why parents remember it fondly.

My daughters love the book! We read it every evening before bedtime. The story is so sweet and lovingly written, and the pictures are beautiful. My girls feel really special because their own name appears in the book. A great keepsake forever! Absolutely recommend. ❤️

We got the book as a birthday present and it turned out perfectly. The print quality pleasantly surprised me – hardcover, nice paper and illustrations printed in fine detail. The characters are drawn so well that my daughter recognized her sister, me, the giraffe and herself :) She really likes the story and now it’s her favourite book, we read it almost every evening. On top of that, it will remain a lovely keepsake that she’ll come back to even in a few years. I definitely recommend it.

An absolutely stunning book made to order. It's not only a beautiful gift, but a keepsake for a lifetime. Our sons are thrilled. Not only did they find “themselves” in the book, but the whole story also takes place in their favourite place, which is the ice rink. The whole book is accompanied by wonderful pictures, and the dedication from us, the parents, is just the cherry on top. I warmly recommend it. Not only will all the “heroes of the book” be thrilled, but so will you, as soon as you see the book with your own eyes :)

Our daughter was absolutely thrilled, she looked through it several times in a row and declared that it's pretty, she hasn't had enough of it yet and we read it every day before bedtime.

A great, sweet and inspiring book that won us over from the very first pages! ❤️ The story of Алекс and Марая inspired us to go to the forest together, to enjoy the autumn beauty, to learn more about the animals and their food, to collect pine cones, hazelnuts, acorns and chestnuts and to create a wonderful autumn decoration at home. 🍂🍁 We love books that we don’t just read, but turn into real family adventures! Thank you for this magical experience! 🥰

The book for my grandson’s christening arrived and I’m thrilled with it. I’m already looking forward to us flipping through it together as soon as he grows up a little. It’s great that you can also add a favourite thing or toy and it gets worked into the story. It’s great!!!

Popular questions

Yes. You choose the form of the name when you create the book, and you can edit any line of the text before finishing. A popular choice is to keep the full Sophia in the title and let the characters say Sophie, which is how many families use the two forms anyway — formal on the outside, familiar inside.
